Closing the gap in research from the global South
An independent non-profit research and innovation institute, founded in 2020 in Mbale, Uganda, working alongside local and international partners to generate rigorous evidence and translate it into practical, affordable solutions.

Our founding story
AMANI is an independent non-profit research and innovation organisation based in Mbale, Uganda. We work alongside local and international partners to generate rigorous scientific evidence and translate it into practical, affordable solutions for some of the most pressing health challenges facing women, newborns, children, and adolescents across Africa and beyond.
Founded in 2020, AMANI was established in direct response to the persistent gap in high-impact research originating from the global South — research that is locally grounded, globally relevant, and practically actionable.
Today, we are scaling that impact through world-class research and innovation, and mentorship of the next generation of African health scientists.
